On October 11, 1998, I performed my very first Wedding Ceremony. The ceremony was in Carlsbad, California and the couple was Jamie and Alfred. Since then, I find myself to be one of those fortunate people who find themselves in the enviable position of truly loving their calling.

I grew up in West Hollywood, California and graduated from Hollywood High. I then attended college in Long Beach. After graduation, I worked for twenty years in Critical Care Medicine. I spent most of my career in ICU where I witnessed the many triumphs and tragedies of life. My experiences there deepened my spiritual beliefs and started me on my path to the Ministry.

Along with my Nursing career, I began public speaking with The American Heart Association as an Instructor and a Fund Raiser. I also became a Clinical Instructor at Long Beach City College. After retiring from Nursing, I became a Volunteer, a Speaker and Fund Raiser for a Pet Therapy Project here in San Diego County.

If it wasn’t for volunteering with the Pet Therapy Project, I would never have chosen my path to the Ministry. When I would take my dogs to visit the elderly in hospitals, the patients not only loved to visit with the pets, but they often wished to say a short prayer before we left.

This was the beginning of my journey to study for the Ministry. I witnessed the power of prayer and saw that I could become a part of it. I studied and became a Minster with United Christian Ministries and I am also a member of The United States Chaplain’s Association.

As I mentioned, my first wedding was performed in 1998. But I soon knew, this was the path upon which I was meant to be. My Nursing career gave me the skills to be calm, detailed and well organized. My Public Speaking experiences made me feel very comfortable in addressing large crowds. My Ministerial studies have now given me the opportunity to perform the weddings I love so much.

In September 2006, I was appointed Deputy Commissioner of Civil Marriages by the Board of Supervisors of San Diego County. This is an enormous privilege and I am honored to be able to continue to enjoy my profession and expand my horizons by performing weddings for the County. I realize just how much I love performing weddings every time I put on the Commissioner’s robe.

I take great care and effort in detailing the perfect Wedding Ceremony for each couple whether it’s content is religious or non-religious. I wear what the Bride and Groom would like me to wear. If a ceremony is more religious in nature, I wear my Pastoral robe. But if the couple prefers, I have many appropriate suits as well as my Commissioner’s robe. I try to keep the colors of my suits and blouses coordinated with that of the wedding party.

At home, I am married to a wonderful man, Ken, who is a professional pilot. We have three children and six grandchildren. We also have a two small dogs named Scooter and Peaches who keep our home lively even though our kids are grown and doing well on their own. We are blessed to have family and many wonderful friends close by in Fallbrook who keep our lives very full and happy.
